About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Perform full range of work involved in the inspection, overhaul, maintenance and repair of small arms in support of the Small Arms Readiness and Evaluation Perform scheduled and special pre-deployment inspection and engraving of small arms issued to US Army. Conduct a complete initial inspection to determine if defects indicated on the job order are actual malfunctions. Inspect parts and subassemblies of disassembled weapons to determine necessity for replacement or repair. Inspect a variety of small arms such as rifles, carbines, pistols and revolvers, semi and fully automatic guns, rocket launchers for safety and serviceability.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is subject to random drug testing. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical under the Department of the Army Drug Free Federal Workplace Program.
  • Incumbent of subject position may be required to travel up to 95% of time to locations CONUS and OCONUS.
  • Incumbent must have and maintain a valid and current driver's license.
  • Federal Wage System employees, WG/WL/WS etc., must past a pre-employment physical.
  • Incumbent must summit to an annual Depot Medical Examination.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Issued credit card for TDY/travel expenses.
  • Incumbent will be required to sign the Lautenberg Amendment Form and it is to be maintained on file while incumbent is occupying this position.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain adjudicated DA Form 7708, Personnel Reliability Screening and Evaluation, in order to work around Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives per AR 190-11 and AR 190-13.

Qualifications

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Small Arms Repairer Inspector ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Small Arms Repairer Inspector. I can perform scheduling and special inspection of all weapons and engraving of small arms. Identify the necessary modification required, and extent of repairs necessary. Observes all safety rules, regulations, and procedures. I inspect, overhaul, maintain and repair of small arms. I am able to complete initial inspection to determine if defects indicate on the job order are actual malfunction. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Frequently lift and carry parts, equipment, and packed containers that weigh up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Work requires bending, walking, lifting and long periods of standing. Crouching, reaching, and stooping. Climbing and working inside vehicles is required. Some work may require the aid of magnifying lenses, eye loops and high intensity light to accomplish repairs. Working Conditions: The work is generally inside in areas that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. May occasionally work outside or in areas that are drafty, hot and poorly lighted. The work is sometimes dusty, dirty, and greasy. Stands on concrete floors or other hard surfaces for long periods. Is exposed to oil, grease and solvents when cleaning and lubricating weapons. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of minor cuts and bruises from tools or sharp edges of metal. Is subject to noise when test firing weapons. Soldering, braising involves exposure to fumes, heat, flying sparks, the glare of torches and heated materials, the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. Wears safety equipment and protective clothing, gloves, and flash shield or eye goggle, etc. as issued. Work is sometimes in vehicles or restricted places, under conditions of cold and heat and outside in inclement weather. Is subject to injuries such as cuts, bruises and burns from electrical shock or hot solder or soldering irons.
