Duties

Provides paralegal and administrative assistance to Legal Assistance attorneys who provide legal services to active duty and retired members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and their dependents, and DOD Civilian employees. Serves as the primary point of contact for clients seeking help from the Fort Belvoir Legal Assistance Office and renders in-person, telephonic and electronic based communications with clients. Drafts and edits memoranda and correspondence relating to overall office operations. Collects detailed client data and enters the information in the Client Information System, which provides continuous external reports to The Office of the Judge Advocate General. Conducts legal research of civil law and regulatory authorities.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing paralegal and administrative assistance to attorneys; ability to communicate and prepare legal papers and summaries of analysis; and ability to use automations such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LLB. or JD.in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Interpersonal SkillsWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
