About the Position: Incumbent will work in the Fort Belvoir Army Installation Office of the Staff Judge Advocate (OSJA). Incumbent will serve serve as Paralegal Specialist providing legal support work in legal assistance to attorneys and clients.
Duties
Represents the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate at Soldier Readiness Programs (SRPs) and other command events.
Performs legal research and analysis and prepares and writes summaries, briefs, and opinions on a wide variety of issues.
Selects, assembles, summarizes, and compiles substantive information by use of statutes, regulations, policies, digests, and other legal subjects.
Drafts briefs, advisory opinions, and other legal instruments for review and approval of attorneys.
Screens clients and cases to determine eligibility and check for conflicts.
Prepares substantive legal documents such as powers of attorney, advanced medical directives, and other legal documents as requested.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a notary public license to provide notary public services to customers of the office.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes administers military justice programs to include but not limited to advise on court-martial panel member selection, assemble separation packets, prepare and processes legal actions; reviews, researches, or drafts Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), gift proffers, and conference packet legal reviews; provides administrative support to a law office; AND coordinates the government ethics program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09),

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Law.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-9).
Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
