Duties

You will plan work procedures and makes extensive repairs and overhauls of complete and complex major systems such as fire trucks, refueling tankers, airfield fire fighting vehicles, etc. You will conduct incoming inspections prior to vehicle induction, diagnoses equipment failures and relays this information to the production controller. You will be able to use specialized diagnostic equipment to diagnose problems in complete state-of-the-art electric and electronic systems to identify and replace defective components You will rebuild or overhauls a variety of engines and transmissions, weight handling equipment and other major equipment which require difficult and precise repairing, fitting, and adjusting moving parts.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • This is an emergency-essential position. In the event of an emergency, you will be notified to report to work during non-duty hours and during an emergency situation
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain one Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in the area of Heavy Truck, automotive and/or school bus

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION in performing repair, major overhaul or modification of engines, including diesel, gasoline and multi-fuel water-cooled.
