This position is located in the Division of Social and Economic Sciences (SES). The incumbent serves as a Division Administrative Assistant in a confidential capacity, working closely with the Division/Office Directors, Program Support/Operations Manager, and other senior leadership within SBE. This is a key position in the division; the incumbent uses discretion and tact while communicating frequently with NSF and interagency contacts, typically at the highest levels of senior management.
Duties
As an Administrative Assistant, you will perform the following duties:
Serve as a confidential assistant to the Division Director and/or Deputy Division Director and handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
Work with the Division's senior staff to formulate decisions regarding business needs and improve effectiveness by monitoring and assessing complex management processes and projects by applying analytical methods and techniques.
Research a wide variety of subjects and analyzing data and information in order to provide the Division Director and Deputy Division Director with authoritative information and material with which to utilize the preparation of reports, policy documents, speeches, etc.
Prepare agendas, briefs of files, and reports for use in conference discussions and meetings.
Plan and coordinate travel, accommodations, and transportation arrangements.
Review and assess travel requests and travel vouchers to assure compliance with Federal Travel Regulations and NSF travel policies and guidance.
Provide meeting support, such as note taking and recording, and preparing minutes for confidential meetings.
Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-7 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service providing administrative support in the areas of correspondence, calendar management, travel management, and data entry. Examples of specialized experience include: providing a full range of administrative support that includes tracking work products, following up on actions, composing and typing confidential correspondence, maintaining a calendar, and planning and coordinating travel.
OR possess one full year of graduate-level education.
OR have a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (as evidenced by class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; 3.0-grade point average on a 4.0 scale for all academic work; grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in the major field of study; or election to membership in a national honor scholastic society).
OR have a combination of post-high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.
To qualify at the GS-9 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service analyzing administrative support processes to recommend improvements in the areas of correspondence, calendar management, travel management, and data entry. Examples of specialized experience include: serving as a personal assistant in a confidential capacity to a senior agency official; performing management planning, meeting planning, and coordinating and organizing policy activities; performing various administrative duties independently; and completing special assignments of a high priority and sensitive nature.
OR A master's or equivalent graduate degree;
OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree;
OR A combination of post high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
