This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Hawaii has many outdoor activities all year round including surfing, paddling, diving, fishing, and hiking.

Duties

Plans daily, weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates and ensures the schedules/inspections are accomplished within set periods. Establishes deadlines and priorities based on work schedules, methods, procedures, and deadlines established by higher levels of supervision. Explains work requirements, methods and procedures; instructs subordinates in new procedures and provides advice when problems arise. Reviews work in progress and on completion. Develops performance standards and makes formal and informal evaluations.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain State of Hawaii Backflow Preventer Certification within two years of employment.
• Protective devices such as but limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, harnesses, gloves, hard hat and safety shoes is required.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain and keep current a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DOD requirement for the type vehicle being operated.
• Position requires incumbent to pass a pre-employment and annual physical examination.
• Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations and may be required to remain on duty after the official shift ends.
• This position requires temporary duty travel (TDY) of 10%.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Fire Extinguishing Systems Mechanic Supervisor ~ without more than normal supervision: planning daily, weekly and monthly work schedules, makes site visits to determine scope of job to be accomplished and plans for work assignments, selects workers and assigns tasks to be performed based upon in-depth expertise of the various types of fire protection systems, AND performing quality control checks on subordinate workers, identifying problem areas and making recommendations for improvements.- Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and where parts of the system are in hard-to-reach places. Frequently lifts and carries items that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally handles heavier items, usually with assistance of another person or of mechanical devices. Work is frequently done from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. The work is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. Exposed to mud, water, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infections from unsanitary work sites. Incumbent has occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones. Protective devices such as but not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, gloves, hard hat, and safety shoes are required. Long trousers or coveralls and shirt or tee shirt with sleeves are worn. Responds to emergency calls after regular working hours.
