The Office of Inspector General (OIG) for HHS fights fraud, waste and abuse in HHS programs including Medicare, Medicaid, Healthcare Marketplaces, NIH, FDA, CDC and more. OIG HHS is the largest Federal inspector general's office, employing a nationwide network of auditors, investigators, attorneys, and evaluators to provide program recommendations to decision-makers, distribute educational resources to the industry and public, and investigate cases to root out fraud.
Duties
Duties for the Physical Security Specialist GS-0080-12/13 in the Office of Management and Policy, include but not limited to:
Plans and directs physical security projects for OIG offices across the country, coordinating with the OMP Facilities Management Team, and assigns the work of contractor support staff.
Directs work related to long and short-term planning and achieving the mission of the Physical Security and Emergency Management program goals.
Advises management on new developments and advances in security techniques.
Plans, organizes, and directs studies to develop long range studies and forecasts, and recommends methods for enhancing efficiency of security systems through modifications and applications of evolving technology.
Evaluates and makes recommendations concerning overall plans and proposals for major OIG security projects, and implements national level guidance in agency standards, guidelines, or policies for the OIG.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

- Suitability for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
- One-year probationary period may be required.
- This is a Testing Designated Position.
- This position is required to secure and maintain a TOP SECRET clearance.

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
For the GS-12: I have one year of specialized work experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which demonstrates, Examples of qualifying experience include.
(1) Leading as a technical expert in projects to resolve problems in existing security systems and emergency management programs;
(2) Making recommendations to address security problems and improve procedures; And
(3) Recommending and managing the implementation of electronic physical access control systems from design through installation.
For the GS-13: I have one year of specialized work experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service which demonstrates, a mastery knowledge of physical security; emergency management and planning; real property management; commercial facility design; and construction. Examples of qualifying experience include.
(1) Planned and executed new program requirements, leveraging extensive knowledge of physical security, emergency management, real property management, and commercial facility design and construction;
(2) Directed complex projects as a technical expert, providing innovative solutions to resolve issues within existing security systems and emergency management programs; And
(3) Utilized detailed knowledge of advanced intrusion detection systems, access control systems, internet protocol video surveillance, and various security measures to ensure comprehensive protection for assets and personnel
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
