You will serve as a NUCLEAR MECHANICAL & STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR (SHIP) LEADER in the NUCLEAR INSPECTION DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties
You will ensure the safety and operational capability of nuclear reactor plant systems.
You will have the authority to stop work when further work would conceal a defect or endanger personnel or equipment.
You will make a wide range of critical decisions on matters concerning the acceptance or rejection of work performed by highly skilled trade workers.
You will authorize and sign for inspections based on review of documented evidence.
You will ensure that needed plans, materials, and tools are available.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You are required to have experience on shipboard (submarine) nuclear and structural systems or experience performing naval nuclear work.
- You are required to have experience as a qualified nuclear inspector.
- This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission
Qualifications

Utilizing a wide array of highly sophisticated quality control inspection skills.
Checking inspections while in progress of work and identifying causes of work delays.
Working with fluid and mechanical systems.
Applying knowledge of other skilled trades such as Welder and Shipfitter, applying full journeyman level or higher experience in pipefitting, valve repair, welding, machining, or other closely related trades.
Interpreting diagrams, specifications, drawings, and interrelated procedure and technical requirements to most critical job applications.
