You will serve as a NUCLEAR MECHANICAL AND STRUCTURAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR LEADER in the NUCLEAR INSPECTION DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will ensure that safety and housekeeping rules are followed. You will report to supervisors on status, progress of work, and causes of delays. You will maintain a current knowledge and answer questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. You will answer questions of supervisors on overall inspection operations and problems.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You may be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: *Performing receipt inspection, preuse inspection, and marking verification of naval nuclear material -ensuring proper material and control and traceability is maintained. *Ensuring reactor grade cleanliness is maintained in accordance with local directives as required by NAVSEA specifications for reactor plant cleanliness. *Performing weld joint in-process and acceptance inspections for nuclear welding and non-destructive tests (NDOT). *Initiating and authorizing rejection of workmanship, components, materials, and procedures that do not meet specifications by preparing a Nuclear Deficiency Report. *Performing surveillances of ongoing and completed work to ensure compliance with all applicable directives.
