Employee will serve as a Social Science Program Specialist - Community Engagement and Partnership Coordinator within the Behavioral Health Service at the VA Medical center located in Spokane, Washington.
Duties

This position will focus upon connecting, developing and coordinating suicide prevention efforts within the community.
Duties include but may not be limited to:
Serves in a leadership role in communicating with, organizing and managing community partner interactions in helping to build coalitions to implement suicide prevention programs aimed at reducing Veteran suicide at the community, state, and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) levels.
Develops, facilitates and strengthens Community-Based interventions for suicide prevention by connecting VA programs and stakeholders.
Provides outreach and education on suicide prevention related topics and services.
Leads alignment of community coalition goals with VA goals, collaborates with non-VA coalition leaders, attends coalition sponsored events/public meetings, conducts and/or supports coalition evaluation activities (survey distribution, data collection, key informant interviews, etc.).
Tracks and assesses responses so problem areas can be identified, avoided, and/or corrected.
Develops and maintains content expertise in suicide prevention through networking, internet access, published literature, national conference calls, and education offerings and professional meetings.
Oversees outreach to education community partners, the media, VA and other government stakeholders to enhance the development of suicide prevention coalitions.
Provides a variety of suicide prevention trainings and develops training programs for staff and external stakeholders regarding suicide prevention.
Serves as the primary point of contact for the dissemination of information related to Veterans Health Administration (VHA)'s efforts to prevent Veteran suicide.
Develops/coordinates graphics requirements, including databases, tables and spreadsheets.
Provides suicide prevention related media/marketing, including interviews, social media postings, and communication campaigns.
Serves as approving official for Fund Control Points related to the program and ensures funds are properly allocated, expended accurately and invoices are certified timely.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements: Applicants must meet at least one of the following Basic Requirements:
A. Bachelor's degree (or higher) with a major inbehavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.(Transcript Required)

B. Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Transcript Required and resume must demonstrate clear details of experience)

C. Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Resume must demonstrate clear details of experience)
AND, in addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, applicants must meet at least one of the following Minimum Qualification Requirements:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-9 grade level in the Federal service that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes developing and facilitating community-based interventions for suicide prevention; communicating effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences of internal and external stakeholders; and utilizing knowledge of data collection and analysis to convey suicide prevention information to management and the public. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completion of threeyears of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. To be creditable, education must major inbehavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level (excess of 2 years of progressively higher graduate education) may be combined with experience.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary and does not require any special physical effort. Work will require walking and standing in conjunction with travel and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site. Employee may carry light items such as papers, books, and portable computer requirement or driving a motor vehicle relative to attendance at meetings. The work often requires long hours to meet project deadlines and to devise corrective action and solutions to unexpected technical and/or management crises resulting in sometimes highly stressful work situations.
