You will serve as a Computer Scientist in the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties

You will lead the planning, design, and/or implementation of an operational installation of IT environment. You will install and configure Linux/Unix based operating systems, Storage devices, and Virtual Server software as well as deploying and managing Virtual machines using Virtual Server software. You will perform diagnostic test and analysis to determine system failures. You will coordinate with NAVOCEANO Information System Security Manager to ensure Virtual Infrastructure, Linux/Unix systems, and Storage systems security and accreditation documentation are complete You will perform other duties as assigned. You will develop plans to incorporate new hardware and software into existing infrastructure.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

For GS-12: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience working within various databases. Experience testing and debugging in the development of a suite of computer software. Experience using JAVA scripting. Experience working within Operating Systems (OS) Windows and Linux. Experience developing technical specifications for user requirements. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
