About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at US Army Central at Shaw AFB, South Carolina.
Duties
The Special Security Officer (SSO) executes Special Security missions under the oversight of the Command Security Officer
Holds functional responsibility for development, implementation, and overall management of all Sensitive Compartmented Information programs and facilities for the United States Army Central (USARCENT).
Ensures the accreditation process is accomplished for USARCENT SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, as well as subordinate SCIFs throughout USARCENT’s Area of Operations (AO) in accordance with appropriate regulations.
Track mandatory training for employees in subordinate commands and recommend solutions for shortcomings.
Provides training and guidance to SSOs and Special Security Representatives (SSR) within the SCIFs under USARCENT on SSO policy and procedures.
Maintain contact with high-ranking staff members, visitors, security specialists at subordinate commands, and other members of the intelligence community to collaborate and/or discuss issues regarding SSO matters.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Two year trial/probationary period may be required.
- In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, individual must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Requires Temporary Duty (TDY) travel up to 25% of the time.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret (TS) security clearance based on a T5investigation/Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with eligibility for sensitivecompartmented information (SCI).

Specialized Experience is defined as 1 year of experience administering a multi-disciplined security program that includes providing program support within two or more of the following areas: Personnel Security (PERSEC), Physical Security (PHYSEC), Industrial Security (INDUSEC), Communications Security (COMSEC) or Special Program Security; AND Experience managing a Command SCI program to include SCIF administration and management.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-11).

Specialized experience is progressively responsible intelligence-related security work directly related to the position being filled.
