The primary purpose of this position is to manage all aspects of information systems, Wide Area Network (WAN), Local Area Network (LAN) support, and systems training for the Aerial Port Squadron (APS).
Duties
Administers and maintains Aerial Port Squadron information systems hardware.
Responsible for identifying, installing and managing software upgrade requirements.
Provides guidance, assistance and training to customers.
Serves as the Aerial Port Squadron network security officer.

- A waiver of this six-month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result
in removal from this position.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes the application of LAN/WAN principles and practices to troubleshoot and maintain the stability of communication lines and equipment; the implementation of LAN/WAN standards and equipment sufficient to install, configure, and troubleshoot LAN/WAN components such as routers, hubs, switches, and servers; utilization of configuration/life cycle management concepts to identify the need to upgrade or enhance network component capabilities in response to network problems/deficiencies; and the utilization of customer support principles to receive, respond to, and ensure the resolution of problems.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of DoD and Air Force automated data processing and networking standards, policies, and techniques.
Knowledge of computer hardware and software systems and their interfaces, higher level programming languages, and other job control languages.
Knowledge of information processing sequences, controls, and procedures to provide user support.
Knowledge of facility environment and infrastructure to support computer systems.
Ability to use and maintain computer systems, equipment, and software; analyze computer network, software, and hardware problems; develop effective and economical solutions; and train users on new computer systems.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
