This position is located at the Erie VA Medical Center, Facilities Management Service (FMS). The incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Maintenance Mechanic.
The main purpose of the position is to provide support to Maintenance Mechanics, Tradesmen, and the Interior Designer.
Duties
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm

Major duties include but not limited to:
Transports furniture, office equipment, interior design items (pictures, wall-hangings, etc.), tools, and related items within the facility and off-campus.
Locates and relocates desks, chairs, tables, bookcases, and other related office equipment and furniture as well as interior design items (pictures, wall-hangings, etc.)
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
Installs and assembles office furniture within the main facility and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), including systems furniture, case goods, accessories, wall-hung units, etc. Installs, moves, reconfigures, repairs, cleans, office furniture. Troubleshoots issues with office furniture to determine viability for repair.
Performs semi-skilled and unskilled minor maintenance and repair work on building, structures, and equipment. Must be able to make repairs on interior walls associated the removal of wall mounted items and refinishes furnishings.
Performs special applications (i.e., wall mounting, leveling, structural connections, custom cuts and other field modifications).
Assists and supports Maintenance Mechanics and Tradesmen with preventative maintenance, work order completion, repairs, and renovations to improve the safety and efficiency of work being performed.
Operates vehicles and mechanical equipment as required to facilitate loading, unloading, and transport of materials, as appropriate to the area of operation. Loads and unloads furniture and related materials onto and off trucks, ensuring that appropriate padding and ropes are used to prevent damage. These include pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks w/ lift gate, and large moving trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 4500 kilograms (10,000 pounds).
Vehicles are driven on campus and public roads on the basis of either specific trip assignments or regularly established schedules and standard routes to transport furniture, equipment, and tools pertaining to moves and furniture installation. A current, valid driver's license is required.
Operates forklifts, mechanical lift gates, and mechanical platforms to facilitate loading and unloading of materials, as appropriate to the area of operation. Operates material handling equipment.
