This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration, Inspection Division, Office of Security Programs, Suitablility Unit.
This position(s) primary purpose is to leads, delivers, and enhance processes for the safety and security of DEA personnel and assets, foreign and domestic, by accurately assessing current and future reliability and trustworthiness, thereby minimizing potential security vulnerabilities.
Duties
As a Personnel Security Specialist, your typical work assignments may include:
Initiating and adjudicating personnel security investigations for public trust and national security positions using prescribed OPM standards and procedures to determine whether contract applicants and/or Task Force Officers (TFOs) are suitable for on-boarding and access.
Initiating required checks of systems such as NADDIS, NLETS, NCIC, Civil Applicant System (fingerprints) and credit systems.
Reviewing the results of national security and public trust investigations of contract and federal personnel in connection with employment or continued employment.
Performing tasks supporting investigation and analysis of issues pertaining to suitability/fitness adjudications of employees, contractors and TFOs.
Requirements

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all of the required qualification requirements described below by the closing of this announcement. If you are qualifying based on education or if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcript with your application.
Applicants applying for the GS-9 must meet one of the following requirements:
A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-07 grade level.
Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting in planning, organizing, and execution of security related functions; 2) Assisting in developing specific security procedures for an organization; and, 3) Assisting in conducting the oversight review of physical, personnel and information security matters.
OR
B. Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.B or J.D., if related.
OR
C. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Applicants applying for the GS-11 must meet one of the following requirements:
A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-09 grade level.
Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Planning, organizing, and execution of security related functions; 2) Assisting in developing specific security procedures for an organization; and, 3) Conducting the oversight review of physical, personnel and information security matters.
OR
B. Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
OR
C. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
