Duties
Serves as the Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist and as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Site Coordinator
Exercises delegated managerial authority to plan, direct, coordinate, oversee and control the Safety, Radioactive, Environmental and VPP office's operations through subordinates.
Responsible for developing and maintaining site specific VPP program documentation, reports, and continuous safety improvements.
Prepares numerous safety reports based on findings of investigation
Tracks the impact of reduced mishaps, reported hazards and employee complaints.
Serves as supervisor to the Radiation Protection Program providing technical advisory services on the degree of hazards associated with ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and effectiveness of measures to control these hazards
Advises on safety issues relating to receiving, storage, handling, and shipping of radioactive items and the disposal of radioactive waste, issues of radiation safety, compliance with and implementation of the Radiation Safety Program.

Qualifications
To qualify for a Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes:
Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements;
Analyzing and evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards;
Assisting with training sessions to educate personnel on Safety and Occupational Health matters.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
