About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain half way between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off of Interstate 20. The depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 5000 employees.

Duties

Incumbent will execute assigned safety and occupational health program(s) to meet regulatory and mission requirements. Investigate and analyze accidents occurring in munitions and industrial areas to determine cause and contributing factors; prepares written accident reports concerning findings. Assist senior safety specialists in the development of safety criteria for new equipment and facilities in munitions and industrial areas. Conducts surveys and inspections of buildings, structures, shop equipment areas, work practices, operations, facilities, mechanical processes and personnel to determine adequacy of safety program in assigned organizational element. Identify and evaluate conditions which may be hazardous to workers health and safety and recommends corrective measures/solutions to eliminate or control those hazards.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a data analytics requirement. The incumbent must meet all requirements for data analytics level 1 certification within 12 months of being placed on the position.
  • This is a Safety position. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Professional Certificate in Safety and Occupational Health (Level 1) Certification within one year of employment.

Applying safety and occupational health laws, and regulations and inspecting workplaces, with safety and occupational health standards to identify hazards. Investigating accident and injury reports in industrial areas to determine cause and contributing factors, and training of workers, supervisors in safety or occupational health subjects. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Accident/Mishap and Hazard Investigation and ReportingCompliance Inspection and Program ManagementRisk ManagementSafety and Health Training and Education Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
