About the Position: Fort Drum, home to the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, It offers bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities. It is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, Adirondack Mountains to the east, and St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.
Duties
Perform actions associated with the care and disposition of remains/personal effects of deceased active duty Soldiers and provide assistance to their next of kin.
Focus on matters related to personal affairs, rights, benefits and other programs administered by the federal government , other agencies and public interest organizations in the civilian communities in the Casualty Assistance Center (CAC).
Project individuals for case assignment and ensures they are assigned, briefed and supported.
Utilize human resources automated database systems, software programs and tools to verify eligibility of benefits and honors.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- May require attendance at funeral locations and Quality Assurance reporting, Temporary duty travel (TDY) in AR 5-9 Area, overtime, emergency overtime, and/or on-call after duty hours.
- Performance of these duties requires employee availability 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of Specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade of GS-06 grade level which includes 1) Interpreting regulations in regard to care and disposition of remains/personal effect of deceased personnel 2) Coordinating with Government and Non-Government agencies regarding the identification, processing, and movement of remains 3) Providing answers to inquiries from Next of Kin and Casualty Assistance Officer; 4) Utilizing human resources automated database systems, software programs and tools to verify eligibility of benefits and honors.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
