This position is located at the Construction and Facilities Management in Washington, District of Columbia.
Duties
The incumbent services as the office manager and administrative assistant and as such manages the administrative workload and aspect of the office. He/she receives visitors and telephone calls regarding construction related matters. Determines the natures and urgency of the contact and refers them to the appropriate Resident Engineer (RE) or other contracts/locations, provides the appropriate information or schedules appointments. Ensures that matters demanding attention of the Senior Resident Engineer (SRE) are promptly brought to his/her attention. The incumbent maintains records and a tracking system to ensure that deadline dates are fully met. Keeps abreast of matters pertaining to procedures and policies related to memorandums, correspondence, reports and related administrative documents. Maintains records on points of contact in order to obtain input on related administrative matters pertaining to office related administrative needs. He/she receives all initial contacts with the Resident Engineers, both by telephone and direct visitation. Receives and determines the distribution of all incoming mail. Handles those items that are routine in nature and apprises the supervisor of items for direction.
This is a term appointment not to exceed 4 years. Term appointments are non-status, nonpermanent appointments of limited duration of more than 1 year, but not more than 4 years and are subject to a 1 year trial period. Should the need warrant, term appointments may be extended without further competition up to a maximum of the 4 year limitation. The appointment to a term position does not confer eligibility for promotion, reassignment, or transfer to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.

Qualifications

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education s described below:
Specialized Experience GS-5: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: provide program and administrative support; operating office automation equipment in the preparation of a variety of reports, letters, memorandums, transmittals, etc.; receiving visitors and telephone inquiries; furnishing general or specific information; reviewing time sheets to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successful completion of full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree.
OR
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when combining education and experience you cannot sue the first 60 semester hours earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the position. For example, for a GS-5 position, an applicant who has 8 months of GS-4 level specialized experience and 80 semester hours of college. The applicant meets 67 percent of the required experience and 33 percent of the required education (i.e., 20 semester hours in excess of the first 60 semester hours). The applicant meets 100 percent of the total requirements and is qualified for the position.

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary with some walking, standing, bending and carrying of lightweight objects.
