The VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) is one of only two VHA hospitals nationwide that independently sponsors accredited graduate medical education (GME) programs in Specialty Care. The VACHS oldest graduate medical education training program have been accredited since 1956 and all current programs are recognized and supported by the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA).
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
The incumbent is the program support assistant/main administrator of the graduate medical education (GME) training program in Internal Medicine and/or any of its subspecialties, for which requires specialized knowledge and skills to apply the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) regulations, policies, and procedures.
Must provide sound analysis of the training program compliance with such rules and regulations and independently manage deviations.
Collecting, analyzing, and sorting data for the preparation of reports for VA Central Office American Medical Association-FRIEDA (AMA-FRIEDA) and National Graduate Medical Education Census (National GME).
Coordination of timely submission of data for recertification of programs to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Managing the Residency Training Program administrative requirements by: assigning evaluation forms to core faculty to meet the requirements of the Residency Education Programs; providing support in various clerical/administrative tasks and in gathering and compiling data regarding Residents performance in the specialty care clinics, inpatient/medical ward rotation, and clinic electives rotation; providing assistance in processing the Medical Residents and Fellows Disbursement Agreement Program.
Coordinating with the ACOS of Education and Human Resources specialists in processing incoming medical students and residents (e.g., WOC, etc.), and coordinate the process through HR and Graduate Medical Education Committee as appropriate.
Prepares budget requests related to residents travel to mandatory rotations.
Performs time and leave tracking of the Specialty and performs trainee audits as required by the ACOS of Education and regulatory agencies.
Assists in the recruitment of faculty physicians by gathering required documentation, coordinating, and setting up the interviews for the applicants.
Performs clerical, administrative, or technical program support work that involve wide variety of workload, scheduling, development, and Power Point presentations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday variable 8 hours daily (shifts vary from 7:00AM to 3:30PM; or 7:30 to 4:00PM or 8:00AM to 4:30PM)
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/13/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: 1) Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production. 2) Works and communicates with clients and customers (e.g., any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit provides, including individuals who work in your agency or in other agencies or organizations outside the Government) to satisfy their expectations. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The employee will mostly work in an office setting and most of the time deskbound, using a computer for major tasks, nevertheless; the employee may spend some time standing, bending, and lifting items for filing and storing supplies. Due to position requirements the employee will be required to walk long distances within the hospital premises to meet with contacts, may also require traveling for training or for meeting with affiliates locally or nationally.
