Duties
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
As an IT Specialist (APPSW), you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:
Analyzes, plans, designs, develops, tests, optimizes, integrates, documents, maintains, modifies and documents reports, dashboards, analytics and/or applications using a variety of the latest, state-of-the-art developer tools and technology.
Performs tasks including reports, dashboard, analytics and/or application programming, debugging, unit testing, validation, and documentation. Older developer tools/programming languages and technology may be used for some projects. Areas of work includes, but is not limited to the following functional areas: human resources (HR) personnel transaction processing, payroll, time and attendance, equal employment opportunity (EEO) and diversity and inclusion, budget, learning, travel, and facilities.
Works with users to identify requirements, outlines the parameters and characteristics of the report, dashboard, analytics and/or application, and ensures that the resulting new or modified product meets the needs of the customer.
Leads and/or serves as team member on new development projects, as well as projects to modify existing reports, dashboards, analytics and/or applications, serving as a technical expert on reports, dashboards, analytics and/ or application development tools. Is often tasked with resolving complex, unforeseen, critical issues that arise during the development and/or modification process.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Basic Qualifications:
For all grade levels, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.
Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience:
You must have one-year specialized experience to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing at least three (3) of the following:
Designing, coding, testing, and debugging large and complex programs translating and interpreting functional requirements into the design and development process.
Setting standards applicable to the design, development, and integration of new and reusable systems components.
Maintaining complete records of program development and revisions, including rationale for modifying or substituting software applications.
Serving as a resource providing technical guidance to team members or other IT specialists explaining approach and methods, coordinating efforts to enhance software reliability.
Generating reports and other work products from a Systems, Applications and Products (SAP) High Performance Analytical Appliance (HANA) (SAP HANA) database and/or development tool, as well as other data sources
