You will serve as a Metal Processing Mechanic in the Production Trades Division, Industrial Execution Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will inspect surfaces to be painted to assure that all surface residues have been removed and surface treatments performed. You will shoot peen critical stress areas on a variety of aircraft and engine parts, such as compressor rotor blades, rotor disks, tie rods bolts and turbine exhaust nozzles. You will clean and prepare aircraft, missile, engine and miscellaneous components and parts, by chemical, mechanical and sonic methods using various chemical solutions. You will restore worn metal surfaces to original dimensions with successive precision buildups of zincate, copper, and chrome. You will do all other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION, and includes the ability to perform the full range of tasks including: 1) Cleaning and preparing aircraft, missile, engine, and associated components by chemical, mechanical and sonic methods using various chemical solutions and abrasive grits; 2) Cleaning metal and non-metal surfaces through the use of sandblasting equipment, 3) Performing shot peening operations on various aircraft parts and components to produce a compressive stress in surface areas, to overcome porosity, and to harden surfaces; 4) Coating metal objects with chromium, nickel, cadmium, silver, copper, tin, aluminum or other metals and alloys to provide corrosion resistant surfaces; 5) Using abrasive sandblasting equipment to clean, remove corrosion and other contaminants from parts and equipment; 6) Examining parts and assemblies to determine type of metal prior to applying appropriate protective finishes and colors in accordance with technical directives; and 7) Working with blueprints, technical orders, engineering specifications, sketches, manufacture's manuals, and laboratory analysis reports to accomplish assigned work tasks.. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
