Duties
As an IT Specialist (INFOSEC) your duties will include, but are not limited to:
Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
Initiate, develop, implement, and evaluate the security programs of an organization, including the implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities such as intrusion detection or access authentication programs.
Lead and coordinate the implementation of security programs across platforms and establish vulnerability reporting criteria; enforce proper backup procedures for all system and network information; and enforce legal controls that provide protection from unauthorized access, alteration, loss, disclosure, and blocking of information.
Serve as principal contact for coordination, implementation, and enforcement of information security policies.
Identify the need for changes based on new security technologies or threats.
Review proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks.
Participate in Web based applications, network, and systems designs to ensure the implementation of systems security policies, guidelines and procedures, including initial design; system life cycle change review; and configuration management.
Implement higher-level security requirements.
If you are selected at the GS-11 or GS-12 levels, you will essentially perform the same duties as those at the full performance level described above, however, duties are less complex and will be performed under closer supervision with more detailed guidance.
Qualifications
In order to qualify for this IT Specialist (INFOSEC), GS-2210, you must have IT related experience demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience obtained in either the private or public sector, and/or completion of specific, intensive training that demonstrates that you possess all of the following four competencies:
Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that you work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 level you must meet the following requirement:
You must have completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks, OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in one of the areas described above leading to such a degree;

You must demonstrate in your resume that you have 1 (one) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service performing IT related tasks such as: participating in the implementation and evaluation of security programs for an organization designed to anticipate, assess and minimize system vulnerabilities such as intrusion detection or access authentication programs, assisting with the development of policies, guidelines, standards, requirements, and procedures covering Information Security Systems, and participating in the testing of new security technologies.
To qualify for this position at the GS-12 level, you must meet the following requirement:
You must have 1 (one) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service performing IT related tasks such as: conducting systems security evaluations, audits and reviews, providing advice and instruction on security issues, and participating in the development and implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities such as intrusion detection or access authentication programs.
To qualify for this position at the GS-13 level, you must meet the following requirement:
You must have 1 (one) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service performing IT related tasks such as: developing, implementing or evaluating the IT security programs of an organization, reviewing and evaluating security incident response policies, and identifying where there is a need for changes based on new security technologies or threats, providing advice and instructions to staff on IT security issues, and/or working with other IT specialists to build secure Web enabled applications.
