As a supervisor/manager, the selectee for this position will be eligible to receive a Manager Performance Incentive (MPI) provided eligibility requirements noted in agency policy are met. The MPI is an annual lump-sum incentive payment that considers agency performance, the manager's individual performance, and available funding.The incumbent of this position serves as the Manager of the Data Science and Cyber Security Section.
Duties
The branch is comprised of two sections totaling about 23 people and four research, engineering, and development (RE&D) budget line items. The Data Science and Cyber Security Section (ANG-E271) is focused on improving data accessibility, security, and strengthening infrastructure to facilitate responsible data use. The section helps implement an aviation RE&D data science strategy to advance data science literacy and leadership within the
organization's workforce, support the development and use of an infrastructure of data and tools, and promote the application of data science to advance its core work on aviation RE&D. It is one of two sections that conducts applied aviation RE&D in support of aircraft safety technology development and enhancement of aircraft certification procedures, airworthiness standards, operation requirements, inspection and maintenance processes, and safety oversight tasks to achieve the next level of safety.

At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-J, FG/GS 14. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.Experience includes: Experience conducting and leading technical research and development programs including identifying research gaps, evaluating technological changes and applying results of science across management, regulatory and other decision frameworks to include collaborating and leveraging research assets and capabilities external to the FAA as well as experience working with academia and other organizations where research is conducted to advance cross-cutting aviation technologies.Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.
