About the Position: The position is located at the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCoE), Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobility and Security, Ft. Moore, Georgia 31905. The "Maneuver Center of Excellence" is located 100 miles south of Atlanta and is adjacent to Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama.

Duties

Perform the full range of maintenance and repairs on target systems and systems and subassemblies of the equipment used on the ranges, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, devices, switching and control panels. Use a variety of test equipment such as voltmeters, frequency meters, transfer impedance meters, oscilloscopes, inductance and capacitance testers, and specialized test equipment to troubleshoot malfunctions to the lowest circuit element. Repair and/or replace sub-assemblies, circuit card assemblies, and individual parts such as, integrated circuits, transistors, operational amplifiers, field effect transistors, diodes, etc. Use blueprints, schematics, manufacturer's specifications and other such controlling criteria, if available. Fabricate and repair electrical power and data cables, hit sensor cable assemblies, hard-wire control power distribution/switch panels and devices. Troubleshoot, replace, and repair defective hardware/parts such as relays, switches, speed sensing assemblies, data cables, target elevating mechanisms, electrical and electronic control panels, electric motors, transistors, and transformers.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Lifting requirement up to 40 pounds.

I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Heavy items may be moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and working at heights over 40 feet. Requires prolonged standing on concrete floors and walking over rough and uneven terrain. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside during all types of weather. Duties are usually performed at any of the training ranges on Fort Benning. Works around military combat and tactical wheeled and tracked vehicles and heavy equipment during live fire operations. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies, and explosives. Subject to abrasions, cuts, thermal and chemical burns, electrical shock, snakebites, skin irritants from poisonous plants, falls from a 40 foot tower, and explosions. Exposed to unpleasant conditions from dirt, solvents, fuel, fumes, oil, and grease. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries used in operating remotely controlled target devices. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as hearing protection, hard hats with face shield, glasses and safety shoes.
