About the Position: This position is located at the Maneuver Center of Excellence (MCOE), Fort Moore, GA. The MCOE is located 100 miles south of Atlanta, Georgia, and is adjacent to Columbus, Georgia and Phenix City, Alabama. The geography and climate are ideal for year-round military training.
Duties
Performs the full range of maintenance and repairs on target systems and subassemblies of equipment used on the ranges, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, devices, switching and control panels, and related controls.
Uses multimeters, voltage and amperage load meters, pressure gauges as well as standard manual and power hand tools used by electrician.
Uses blueprints, schematics, repair manuals and other guides in troubleshooting and completing repairs and modifications.
Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
Uses knowledge of electronic and electrical theory to complete repairs on a variety of electrical and electronic target systems containing diodes, transistors, and electronic devices in the circuitry.
Uses a variety of test equipment such as voltmeters, frequency meters, transfer impedance meters, ohmmeters, meggers, oscilloscopes, inductance and capacitance testers, frequency counters and specialized test equipment to troubleshoot malfunctions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electrical Equipment Repairer Leader (Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks including repairing electrical equipment. I can perform electrical equipment repair tasks such as maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and inspecting electrical devices used on all training ranges, to include control panels and various target systems. Relaying on to others daily work instructions received from supervisor, ensuring proper distribution of workload. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Requires frequent lifting, and carrying of target mechanisms, tools, and equipment weighing over 40 pounds. Heavy items may be moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and working at heights over 40 feet. Requires prolonged standing on concrete floors and walking over rough and uneven terrain.
Working Conditions: Works inside and outside during all types of weather. Duties are usually performed at any of the training ranges on Fort Benning. Works around military combat and tactical wheeled and tracked vehicles and heavy equipment during live fire operations. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies, and explosives. Subject to abrasions, cuts, thermal and chemical burns, electrical shock, snakebites, skin irritants from poisonous plants, falls from a 40 foot tower, and explosions. Exposed to unpleasant conditions from dirt, solvents, fuel, fumes, oil, and grease. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries used in operating remotely controlled target devices. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as hearing protection, hard hats with face shield, glasses and safety shoes.
