About the Position: This position serves as a Supervisory Medical Support Assistant over a group of employees performing medical clerk, receptionist, record keeping, files management, office automation, and miscellaneous clerical duties in support of the Department of Medicine at Womack Army Medical Center.
Hours are from 0730-1630 with a one hour lunch.
Duties
Assist in assigning work to meet mission objectives.
Provide input on employee performance for compliance in accordance with established procedures.
Operate office automation equipment to compile a variety of documents in support of the medical facility.
Perform a full range of medical clerk duties to support patients and staff.
Compile data for a variety of reports and prepares releases of information for patients.
Plan, organize and schedule the clerical work in accordance with established priorities, policies and procedures.
Assign work, daily, weekly or monthly to employees, providing special instructions as necessary for new or unusual assignments.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- A national agency check with inquiries (NACI) is required.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
Time-in-grade documentation: If you are applying for a higher grade and your SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you meet the one year time-in-grade requirement so you will need to provide an SF-50 which clearly demonstrates you meet the time-in-grade requirements (examples of appropriate SF-50s include Promotions, Within-grade Grade/Range Increases, and SF-50s with an effective date more than one year old).
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes performing clerical and administrative support functions within a medical treatment facility; updating patient records; answering and directing phone calls; scheduling medical appointments for patients; screening patients to determine eligibility; operating office automation software for input of patient demographics.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
