This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (MSA) for the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) at Womack Army Medical Center providing direct assistance to the FAP staff and coordinating activities with a variety of medical, social service, and legal staff.
Duties
Provides direct assistance to the Chairperson, Incident Determination Committee (IDC) and the Family Advocacy Program staff in providing services to Soldiers and Families.
Coordinates activities with a variety of medical, social service, and legal staff.
Organizes and schedules the clerical work in accordance with established priorities, policies and procedures.
Assigns work, daily, weekly or monthly to employees, providing special instructions as necessary for new or unusual assignments.
Assures that quality, quantity, and accuracy requirements are met.
Provides on-the-job training to newly assigned clerks.
Participates in interviews of candidates to fill vacant positions.
Operates manual, electric, or automatic typewriters or CRT equipped computer terminals in a word processing/data transcription mode.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required
- This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing administrative and clerical support for an office that handles cases of child or partner abuse; managing sensitive information while maintaining patient confidentiality; AND provides automation support using multiple computer systems and technologies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
