You will serve as a Marine Machinery Mechanic Leader (Expert) in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.
The incumbent of this position will serve as an Expert Marine Machinery Mechanic leading a group to ensure work assignments are completed. This position is located in Shop 38.
Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: If you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A.
Duties
You will serve as a subject matter expert for the installation, alignment, repairs and tests of shipboard machinery, including engines, ordnance machinery, deck machinery and other components within the shop.
You will lead, train, and mentor shop personnel performing disassembly, inspection, repair, test, shipboard lay-out and alignment, installation of steam turbines, reduction gears and other main propulsion components.
You will complete inspection reports, review technical work documents and refer discrepancies to supervisors for appropriate action.
You will monitor the diagnosis of malfunctions on ships and submarines and ensure repairs and maintenance of machinery and equipment are in accordance with schematic drawings, operation manuals and manufacture's specifications.
You will inspect completed work for quality and work requirements.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing 60 pounds.
- This position requires the ability to climb vertical ladders when working aboard ships and submarines, and occasional work work from ladders, platforms and staging areas.
- This position requires work in confined spaces.
- This position requires visual acuity and accurate color discrimination and the ability to distinguish between colors and shades of colors.
- This position may be subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required..
- This position requires rotating shift work.
