You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC SUPERVISOR I in the MECHANICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will coordinate with contractor technical representative personnel when assigned to perform troubleshooting, analysis, and/or repairs. You will determine performance of a satisfactory amount and quality of work and review products for acceptability. You will actively support and promote all aspects of the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Program. You will check work in progress and when finished to ensure instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. You will motivate subordinates to operate as an effective working unit.

Requirements

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: *Ability to lay-out, inspect, repair, relocate, modify and align a wide variety of marine machinery, equipment, and systems located aboard submarines, ships, and other floating crafts on a continuing basis. *Determining sequence, priorities, and deadlines of scheduled assignments. *Planning most efficient use of equipment, material, and manpower in terms of workload and completion dates. *Executing administrative functions, scheduling and approving leave, issuing performance appraisals, and deciding conduct related matters. *Instructing workers, correcting improper methods, and interpreting blueprints and similar instructions as necessary.
