You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC SUPERVISOR I in the MECHANICAL SHOP (CODE 938), PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will ensure that proper safety equipment is available and arrange for the provision of necessary personal protective equipment. You will conduct daily pre-job briefings. You will enforce safety, fire, radiological and other regulations and maintain good housekeeping in work areas supervised. You will recommend purchase of new machines, tools, and relocation of equipment.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: *Ability to interpret blueprints accompanying job orders and, as required, preparing layouts, patterns, and sketches. *Resolving work problems and taking the necessary corrective action to overcome such delays as bottlenecks, equipment breakdown, and material shortages. *Training subordinates in work methods and procedures, proper use of tools and equipment, safe practices, operations of new equipment, safety regulations, and other regulations and policies established by higher authority. *Reviewing upcoming workloads and estimating/requisitioning the consumable materials, special tooling and equipment needed to accomplish the work. *Planning sequence of operations and work steps for employees supervised, and personally directs all assignments.
