This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Enterprise Data and Analytics (OEDA), Data Analytics and Strategy Group (DASG).
As a IT Specialist (Security), GS-2210-14, you will serve as a senior technical advisor and is assigned to participate and lead efforts towards achieving the tactical and strategic objectives of the CMS Information Security Program.
Duties
Apply knowledge in software systems lifecycle and software engineering practices applicable to secure data storage, retrieval, and sharing, identifying security risks and system vulnerabilities while balancing customer service expectations.
Work alongside engineers and product development specialists to recommend solutions which meet both business and security requirements.
Serve as a subject matter expert in the practical use and application of securely developed technologies and as in the lifecycle management of applications developed using industry interoperable standards.
Use expert knowledge of security and privacy policy best practices to implement interoperable and standards-based data dissemination practices.
Serve as the security lead for interdisciplinary teams and as an Agency liaison to provide feedback to internal and external entities involved in advancing secure data sharing efforts while protecting personal information.

AND
In order to qualify for the GS-14, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include:
Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of operational IT security and privacy programs; AND
Recommending solutions to problems in implementing policies affecting IT security and beneficiary privacy; AND
Implementing standards for the secure transmission of data through application programming interfaces.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
