This position is located in the Defender Services Office (DSO). DSO administers the federal appointed counsel program consisting of federal public defender and community defender organizations and private panel attorneys. The Defender Services Program operates pursuant to the Criminal Justice Act (CJA), 18 U.S.C. §3006A.
Duties
As a vital member of the DSO Administrative Operations Staff, the incumbent of this position will serve as an Information Technology Specialist, responsible for providing technical solutions for virtual and in-person national conferences and training events; fullfilling requests for AV equipment shipped to events; testing equipment and applications; monitoring updates; training staff on the use of AV equipment, SharePoint, remote login; and liaising with agency help desk technicians to support the IT needs of DSO staff.

The incumbent of this position must be able to take ideas and turn them into action, operate audio-visual (AV) equipment, and provide technical support to DSO staff. Applicants must demonstrate familiarity with virtual and on-site conference operations, understand databases and systems capabilities, and appreciate the role security plays in IT support.
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:
Providing technical solutions for virtual and in-person national conferences and training events.
Fulfilling requests for AV equipment that is shipped to these events.
Testing equipment and applications, monitoring updates, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
Training staff on the use of AV equipment, SharePoint, remote log in, digital signage, survey applications, and more.
Researching audio visual and video equipment, applications, programs, processes, and resources to enhance current operations, increase efficiency, and manage costs.
Providing technical support for databases, software, and officewide projects.
Liaising with agency help desk technicians to support the IT needs of DSO staff.
Managing equipment inventory records.
Monitoring support ticket resolution, tracking software licenses, and project progress.
Monitoring file access and ensuring data access control measures are in place.
Preparing and updating standard operating procedures documents.
Qualifications
Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated ability to operate audio-visual equipment, video software, survey application(s), Windows 11 operating system, and a variety of software programs.
