The Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT) are assigned to provide services in highly specialized areas of radiologic technology (Computed Tomography(CT) and Diagnostic Radiologic Technology. The incumbent performs specialized and highly complex Computed Tomography (CT), Computed Tomography Angiogram (CTA), CT 3D Modeling, Low Dose CT Cancer Screenings, Interventional Radiology CT procedures and Diagnostic Radiology X-Ray studies for the patients of this medical center.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Transfer patients from stretcher or wheelchair to radiographic table. Prepare room, equipment and material needed for patient procedures. Prepare s oral and injectable contrast and other chemical mixtures as necessary. Employee will operate I-Stat equipment for studies requiring creatine level. Employee will draw a drop of blood from venipuncture, to place in I-Stat cartridge. Procedure will take less than5 minutes from start to finish for creatine level. Employee will report I-stat equipment problems to lab supervisor. Follow prescribed protocols required to perform procedures. Observes patients during procedures and reports complications or unusual events. Perform computer work and required forms associated with patient exams, credit of patient visits, complications and/or quality improvement activities of the Radiology Department. Performs daily maintenance of head and body phantoms, such as changing water, cleaning and removing air bubbles, etc. Administer contrast material, under the direction of the radiologist, according to protocols. Check and make minor adjustments to equipment such as setting wedges, or changing adjusters. Maximize patient throughput by contacts with escort, ward secretaries, nursing personnel, etc. Maintain a clean work area and adequate level of supplies within assigned rooms at all times. Provide training to student radiographers. Provide education to patients and their families on Imaging procedures. Clerical and file room duties related to patient care and imaging administrative requirements. Performs all quality control test on equipment. Maintain inventory of supplies, Assist in the development, revising, and modifying procedure protocols. Work Schedule: Thursday 8:00am-4:30pm, Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, Saturday 8:00pm-8:00am, Sunday 8:00pm-8:00am Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic Radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from schools accredited by the ARRT and certification by the ARRT in radiology. Certification: Must be certified in general Radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)(R). English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and7407(d). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Employees at this level are fully functional as an advanced DRT and carry out their assigned tasks independently. DRTs at this level may have varying assignments including special and complex imaging procedures beyond the full performance level, clinical instruction, and basic QM type duties within the program. Regardless of the nature of the specific assignment, the work must be of sufficient scope and complexity to meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform at this level. The candidate must demonstrate all of the following specialized experience and technical KSAs: Grade Determinations: Canidates must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower level. Examples of experience include: Balancing the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures. Gathering relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers. Assessing factors that may contraindicate the procedure. Basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography. And, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to provide feedback to supervisor on technical aspects of work. Ability to resolve informal employee complaints.. Ability to monitor and report on the status and progress of work and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established procedures. Ability to perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations. References: ???????VA Handbook 5005/119 PART II APPENDIX G25 Physical Requirements: Lifting up to 40 lbs, light carrying under 20 lbs, ability to reposition patients, use of fingers and both hands required, walking 2 hours, standing 2 hours, both eyes required for depth perception, ability to distinguish shades of color, hearing (aid permitted), emotional and mental stability, near and far vision of 20/40 or better (corrective lenses permitted)

Education

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
