The Supervisory CT Technologist is a working supervisor and has the overall responsibility for the coordination and performance of all exams performed in the CT Scan Section within Radiology Service. Incumbent works closely with the Radiologists, Clinical Managers, Imaging Manager and staff to ensure to assure optimum quality control, efficient coordination of activities, high quality diagnostic/therapeutic exam results, and patient satisfaction.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Performs the function of a CT technologist 75% of time.
Work with the Radiologist as a member of the Imaging team.
Explain exams to patients, as well as potential hazards.
Ensure all radiology requests are entered.
Practice radiation safety in order to reduce exposure to patients, staff and self.
Confer with Radiologists to determine requirement of nonstandard exams.
The CTWS supervises and directs the work of subordinate employees.
Monitor and makes work assignments.
Provide input on performance.
Resolve daily workplace issues.
Maintain efficient workflow while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases.
Evaluate all CT technologists at the 6 month and yearly periods.
Develop and maintains weekly and monthly rotational technologist schedule.
Ensure self and staff report equipment malfunctions properly, timely, accurately.
Provide information to employees concerning leadership goals, objectives, and concerns.
Perform and supervise CT Technologist work and routine clerical procedures.
The CTWS is an important part of the Imaging Leadership team.
Contribute to leadership of the Imaging Service.
Recommend, coordinate and evaluate new or modified procedures/protocols.
Make recommendations to Imaging leadership to improve the Veteran's experience.
Ensure that adequate quantities of supplies are available to meet workload demands through a systemized process of ordering, receipt and inventory control.
Assist in recruitment and interviews to fill vacancies in CT and elsewhere in the Imaging Service.
Responsible for the final technical quality of the CT Scans produced by the CT Technologists.
The incumbent will also participate in on-call to provide 24-hour, 7 day a week coverage; will also participate in the departmental in-service program.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:30pm to include on-call shifts periodically

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic Radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from schools accredited by the ARRT and certification by the ARRT in radiology.
Certification: Must be certified in general Radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)(R).
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements above, applicants must at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies needed to provide services as a quality control technologist, DRT team leader, supervisory radiologic technologist, or an assistant chief radiologic technologist.
Specialized experience includes:
Function as a lead DRT for a group of DRTs
Provides a full range of general radiologic imaging exams
Broad knowledge of the different modalities within the diagnostic radiologic area
In Addition to Grade determination the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
Ability to perform the full range of supervisory duties, including responsibility for assignment of work performed; performance evaluations; recommendations for appointments, awards, advancements, and, when appropriate, disciplinary actions; and identification of continuing education and training needs.
Ability to serve as a consultant to other facility personnel in evaluating and planning radiologic technology services for the most complex cases.
Ability to participate in research studies and/or as a consultant to others conducting research.
Ability to consult with staff and resident physicians through patient presentation, attending ward rounds, and specialty clinics and/or conferences, etc.
Ability to assess, plan, and evaluate the delivery of radiologic technology services at the facility.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands of the work include: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; pushing up to 4 hours; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, good dexterity (both hands required); prolonged walking, prolonged standing; repeated bending; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); speed in working; and emotional stability. Must have the ability to stand and work while wearing a lead apron for possibly long periods of time

This position is eligible for
the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
