This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent, Wind River Agency in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. This position performs maintenance work that is necessary to ensure that building, equipment, and utility systems remain fully operational, safe, and adequate to meet the needs and requirements of programs and facility users. Duties

Carpentry upkeep and repair. Regulate and repair electrical systems. Repair and/or replace plumbing systems. Gardening and landscaping. Sanitation – trash removal. Abide by safety rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Form BIA -4432 must be submitted with the application if claiming Indian Preference.

  • NOTE: This a permanent Full-Time Furlough position and is subject to placement in Non-Pay status when services are not needed due to lack of work, funds, or unforeseen circumstances.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards). QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. NOTE: The screen-out elements are the critical knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential for satisfactory job performance. To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Job Element 1: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT): You have performed Maintenance Worker tasks in a general nature necessary for the proper operation, maintenance and repair of buildings, sheds, and facilities, water and heating systems, pumps, fans or motors, or other equipment. Including carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, plastering and other trades, gas and electrical welding and the operation of motor vehicle and composable & equipment. Sub-journeyman skills in a variety of crafts. Job Element 2: E: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Job Element 25: E-Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Job Element 60: Use of Measuring Instruments Job Element 81: Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Job Element 75-A: Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Job Element 82-A: Knowledge of Materials If your knowledge and ability in the factors above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Physical Demands: When driving vehicles, must reach, bend, turn, or move hands, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Employee must also perform duties that require standing, climbing, bending, stretching, and sometimes working in cramped hard-to-reach positions. Lifts and carries tools, materials, and ladders weighting up to approximately 50 lbs. Working Conditions: Works indoors with adequate heat, light and ventilation. Exposed to possible cuts, bruises, falls, minor burns, tripping hazards and the possibility of shock if caution is not used in testing of work. Outside work is usually in favorable condition but occasionally done in adverse weather conditions, in the extreme heat or cold temperatures, dusty, windy and frequently subject to disagreeable orders. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.
