This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Wind River, Facilities Management, in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance duties in facility operations, maintaining office buildings, shops, residential dwellings, and buildings and grounds for which the Bureau is responsible to maintain. Your duties will include, but are not limited to: Carpentry upkeep and repair. Regulate and repair electrical systems. Repair and/or replace plumbing systems. Gardening and landscaping. Miscellaneous Sanitation - trash removal. Abide by safety rules and regulations.

  • Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Form BIA -4432 must be submitted with the application if claiming Indian Preference.

  • NOTE: This a permanent Full-Time Furlough position and is subject to placement in Non-Pay status when services are not needed due to lack of work, funds, or unforeseen circumstances.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for all trade and labor occupations, you must meet any minimum experience or training requirements per OPM qualifications standards and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Job Element 1: Screen-out Element - Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision: You have performed Maintenance Worker tasks in a general nature necessary for the proper operation, maintenance and repair of buildings, sheds, and facilities, water and heating systems, pumps, fans or motors, or other equipment. Including carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, plastering and other trades, gas and electrical welding and the operation of motor vehicle and composable & equipment. Sub-journeyman skills in a variety of crafts. Job Element 2-E: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair Job Element 25-E: Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Job Element 60: Use of Measuring Instruments Job Element 81:Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Physical Demands: When driving vehicles, must reach, bend, turn, or move hands, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Employee must also perform duties that require standing, climbing, bending, stretching, and sometimes working in cramped hard-to-reach positions. Lifts and carries tools, materials, and ladders weighting up to approximately 50 lbs. Working Conditions: Works indoors with adequate heat, light and ventilation. Exposed to possible cuts, bruises, falls, minor burns, tripping hazards and the possibility of shock if caution is not used in testing of work. Outside work is usually in favorable condition but occasionally done in adverse weather conditions, in the extreme heat or cold temperatures, dusty, windy and frequently subject to disagreeable orders. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). Additional selections may be made from this announcement if identical vacancies occur in the same location within 90 days from the closing date.

Education
