This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Jean Mayer Human Nutrition Research Center of Aging in Boston, MA. In this position, you will serve as a personal assistant to the Research Leader and other professional staff, coordinating a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks essential to the program administration of the Management Unit.

Duties

Schedules conferences and meetings, including arranging logistics, preparing agendas, and notifying participants. Participates in program planning support work including research project coordination, travel documentation, budget coordination, purchasing and procurement of supplies and equipment, and human resources administration. Uses an electronic calendar, database and spreadsheet software to document employee leave schedules and transmit and receive documents and messages electronically. Establishes, maintains, and revises the office filing system.

Requirements

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Time-in-grade restrictions apply for all candidates considered under merit promotion procedures and must be met by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on the closing date of this vacancy announcement. GS-06: Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience scheduling or coordinating meetings; assisting with office administration tasks including coordinating travel, ordering office supplies, or receiving leave requests; and using word processing programs to edit documents. In addition to meeting experience requirements, applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute. GS-07: Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience preparing or reviewing financial documents; providing information on policies, procedures, or guidelines; and contributing to the logistical planning of events, conferences, seminars, or trainings. In addition to meeting experience requirements, applicants must be able to type 40 words per minute. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Applicants must be available to report for duty at the time a selection is made. Selections are typically made within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
