You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) in the COMBAT SYSTEMS DIVISION, ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will be responsible for coordinating with other Engineers and Technicians to ensure that all systems are covered.
You will evaluate project objectives, perform complete engineering calculations, and identify the most economical and efficient procedures for performance verification.
You will consult with vendor personnel to resolve difficult and complex problems prior to Combat Systems installation and/or test.
You will review and evaluate design drawings, material samples, and material certifications provided by vendors.
Requirements

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
Qualifications
GS-11
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
*Experience assisting with the planning, installation, and testing of equipment and systems involved during a ship's overhaul period
*Experience preparing scheduling documents, status reports, milestone charts, and other management documents for assigned systems.
*Experience assisting in training new engineers and technicians in the organization.
*Experience performing engineering calculations and identifying the most economical and efficient procedures for performance verification.
GS-09
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
*Experience preparing correspondence, technical reports, fact sheets, status reports to complete project assignments.
*Experience working with systems such as hydraulics ventilation, heating and cooling systems.
*Experience working with Periscopes, Towed Arrays, and Masts.

Two full years of graduate education

A master's degree meets the requirements.
