This is a Recent Graduate position in the Pathways Program. This is an Excepted Service appointment. The Pathways Recent Graduate Program offers candidates the opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job training and experience related to the Security career field. The program duration is one year and upon successful completion of the program requirements, the individual may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent position in the competitive service.
Duties
Assists with coordinating with Headquarters, Region, and Corporate Audit Directorate (CAD) offices to clarify personnel information and/or obtain additional information to fulfill security requirements.
Compile and track data; providing basic computer assistance; scheduling meetings; typing correspondences; providing standard information on administrative policies.
Gathers and summarizes information from files and documents for the supervisor's or staff's use in responding to inquiries.
Assists higher-graded Security Specialists in conducting physical security inspections, assisting outside visitors, evaluating findings and recommended changes to visitor tracking logs, and other similar activities.
Assists in the receipt, control, logging, safekeeping, and necessary action on classified materials. Assists the staff with clerical, procedural, and instructions for the office.
Assisting experienced specialists in conducting onsite physical or industrial security inspections or assistance visits and assisting in the evaluation of findings and development of recommendations for changes.
Reviewing requests for information security guidance or assistance, identifying the nature of issues involved, and researching guidelines to identify the general policies and procedures that apply to their solutions.
Requirements

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (at a minimum); some positions require a TS/SCI – Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information; A Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph (CI/Poly) may be required.

Qualifications
You must meet the minimum qualification requirements as stated in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/Standards/group-stds/gs-prof.asp.
Specialized Experience:
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-05: Three years of general experience, one year of which was equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to the GS-4 grade level in the federal service that demonstrates the ability to analyze problems to identify significant factors gather pertinent data and recognize solutions plan and organize work and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-07:
You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 or equivalent level. Specialized experience includes such duties as gathering and compiling information reviewing paperwork for accuracy errors and completeness providing assistance to senior level management and other personnel operating various computer programs databases to produce program actions parentheses IE credit checks security screenings criminal checks etcetera parentheses maintaining the security of sensitive files and records.
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-09:
You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-07 or equivalent level. Specialized experience includes assisting in developing, evaluating and implementing a security program in at least one area of security specialization (personnel, physical, etc.), and/or working with higher level security specialists in the performance of detailed and routine work in order to develop general skills in security administration.
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-0080-11:
You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-09 or equivalent level. Specialized experience includes developing portions of security plans for a Federal or private sector facility; adjudicating security clearance requests; providing recommendations to higher level specialist on security issues.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Recent Graduates may be converted to a permanent or term position within 120 days of successful completion of the program. To be eligible for the conversion, Recent Grads must: Successfully completed at least 1 year of continuous services; Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Recent Grad will be converted; and Meet requirements in the Participant's Agreement
Education
Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience:
For the GS-05 level: 4 years of education about high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is a prerequisite
For the GS-07 level: One full year of graduate level education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement when education is directly related to the position being filled or superior academic achievement.
For the GS-09 level: A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree directly related to the position being filled.
For the GS-11 level: A Ph. D. or equivalent doctoral degree (such as an LL.M, if related) or successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education (54 semester hours, 81 quarter hours, or the equivalent) with a major study in a subject area related to the position.
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from
schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
