About the Position: Fort Drum, home to the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, It offers bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities. It is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, Adirondack Mountains to the east, and St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.
Duties
Perform scheduled maintenance and troubleshooting tasks on various field devices such as tightening contacts and connections and replacing fuses, resistors, and analog boards as needed.
Input facility schematics of system locations which provide a graphic representation for identifying a
problem source using manufacturer special purpose source programs, guides, and codes.
Utilize appropriate interactive commands to neutralize problems, alarms, or to adjust conditions pinpointed by the computer.
Maintain the integrity of the Energy Monitoring and Control System (EMCS) for monitoring and controlling HVAC and energy systems in a variety of facilities.
Troubleshoot Energy Monitoring and Control System using one-line drawings, blueprints, manufacturers specifications, trade manuals, and utilizing test equipment to locate source of problem.
Perform site surveys of facilities and make recommendations for developing scopes of work for bringing system on-line.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid government driver's license.
- Employee is subject to call back in the event of an emergency.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic without more than normal supervision to include repairing, maintaining, and performing preventive maintenance on machinery; apply high degree of knowledge of electronic theory and circuits to include installing, repairing, overhauling, aligning, testing and maintaining equipment and/or machinery and operations testing. I work under supervision of a journey-level employee who review my work for completion. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Special Placement Factor: Must possess and maintain, for the duration of employment in this position, an EPA Universal Certificate for refrigerant use. (Note: A copy of the EPA Universal Certificate must be included with the application.)

Physical Effort: Light physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls for vehicles. Handles and carries tools, equipment, and testing equipment usually weighing no more than 80 pounds. Incumbent is required to stoop, stretch, bend, kneel, and work in uncomfortable positions to reach parts of the system when modifying/adjusting field devices, and work in a sitting position when performing office duties for extended periods of time. Occasionally, climbing and working in high places may be required.
Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed inside in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. May work in drafty attic spaces and cramped areas with low overhead or sudden temperature changes when maintaining or troubleshooting field devices or during field surveys. Safety glasses, safety shoes, and ear plugs are issued or are available. Additional specialized safety equipment is provided as required.
