This position is part of the NNSA - Office of Secure Transportation, Department of Energy. A successful candidate in this position will serve as Information Technology Specialist (Network), where you will design, build, and maintain highly redundant fault-tolerant IT networks using multiple platforms. You will be involved in planning and managing long-range IT projects and priorities to ensure successful completion of a critical IT networking infrastructure.

To qualify, you must possess the EXPERIENCE OR EDUCATION as described below: EDUCATION: For NQ-2, possess a Master's degree, an equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree. Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. or SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS NQ-2 A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NQ-01 or GS-07. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience Configuring and optimizing network devices such as routers, switches, and gateways to wireless and terrestrial wide-area network interfaces. Maintaining and documenting network topology, infrastructure, and network management workflows. Understanding and maintaining high quality system design documentation to include how multiple environments work together. NQ-3 A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service, i.e., NQ-02 or GS-12. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience Designing, building and maintaining highly redundant fault-tolerant networking topology using multiple platforms, e.g., Cisco, Palo Alto, and VMware Configuring and optimizing network devices such as routers, switches, and gateways to wireless and terrestrial wide-area network interfaces Defining, maintaining and documenting network topology, infrastructure, and network management workflows. Experience with monitoring changes and trend analysis of networks (workloads, performance/security events, and malicious threats). "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must meet all of the requirements as described in this section. If you are eligible for career transition assistance plans such as ICTAP or CTAP, you must meet the definition of "well qualified" which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.

Education

There is no education requirement for this position and education cannot be substituted for experience at the NQ-3 level.
