The incumbent serves as the Program Support Assistant to the Program Director, Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) that provides administrative technical support and serves as an information system operator. Incumbent screens visitors and callers directing them to appropriate staff members or answering administrative questions as required and acts as the initial contact person for crisis calls from family members/significant others regarding emergency situations of patients of the HBPC.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to the following:
The incumbent operates at a level of responsibility that requires independent
actions with broad program directives and supervisory guidelines.
Screens requests for information, personally providing authorized information from files and records or advice on established procedures.
Effectively interacts with staff, top management officials, Veterans and family
members; to determine the eligibility of patients for admission to the HBPC program.
Establishes program priorities for the successful completion of projects and expedition
of correspondence within established policies and procedures.
Assists Program Director in preparation of presentations and reports.
Generates a variety of materials for distribution, including correspondence, forms, statistical reports, etc.
Maintains cumulative records on program reports and responses; routine data and information requested from outside services; policy statements,
minutes; confidential patient records, medications and equipment and ensure that
adequate security is maintained at all times; home visits, patient status, supplies, HBPC
fiscal budget, bereavement follow-up with family, phone consultations, etc.
Work Schedule: M-F 8:00 am - 4:30 PM

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. There may be some discomfort associated with long hours spent looking at the computer terminal. The work occasionally requires carrying
light objects such as files, books and papers; some walking, standing and bending.

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
Typing Proficiency: You must be able to type 40 words per minute.
In addition to the Typing Proficiency, you must meet the Specialized Experience described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of automated computed systems used to account for inventories. Skills in using office automation equipment. Skills in using Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and other inventory management programs. Knowledge to understand medical diagnoses and prescription. Provide general information for record/files. (This experience must be well documented in your resume or application package.)

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
