The position serves as the Administrative Support Specialist and is located at the Stockton Dental Clinic, at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Northern California Health Care System, Stockton, California. The VA Northern California Health Care System includes five dental clinics. These clinics are located in Chico, Redding, McClellan, Mare Island and Stockton, California where this position may reside.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to the following:
The Administrative Support Specialist for the Dental Service has the full responsibility for providing administrative and technical support to the Service Administrative Officer, Lead Dentists, and Chief, Dental Service.
This may include independently gathering required data and information and following-up by inquiry, observation, and examination of facts on complaints and inquiries from physicians, hospitals, private individual, Congressmen, etc., making recommendations, and assisting with the coordination and expeditious resolution of problems.
Monitors and ensures all equipment suspenses for each site are completed in a timely manner.
Assists in managing access and sponsorship for new Dental Service employees. Including PIV card sponsorship, initial IT account requests.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday. 8:00am-4:30pm.

Physical Requirements: The work involved is primarily sedentary in nature. Some walking is involved in hand delivery and pick up of documents. Concertation and sustained performance under prolonged stress is required because of the time factors involved in completing work within monthly deadlines.

Proficiency Requirements: In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
(Office Automation) Must have typing speed of 40 words per minute typing speed. (Words per minute are based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors)
GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Special knowledge of the regulations, policies, and procedures of the service functional and administrative areas such as material and supply procurement, contracting, finance and accounting, budget, counsel, information management, etc., to coordinate and resolve questions and/or problems. (This must be documented in your resume).
There is no educational substitution for the GS-07 level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
