You will serve as a Supervisory Police Officer (DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE) of NSA BETHESDA SECURITY DETACHMENT.

Duties

You will manage, plan, direct, and coordinate all Security and Law Enforcement Operations. You will prepare watchbills (work schedules) for all patrol personnel and present it for approval by the Commanding Officer. You will manage Human Resources actions (time and attendance, performance appraisals, leave). You will implement a law enforcement program to protect personnel and property from loss, theft, sabotage, or terrorism. You will brief report details of situations, security violations, adverse weather conditions, or other emergencies requiring immediate attention. You will detect and investigate unusual situations and use force to restrain and apprehend violators.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • Completion of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) Uniformed Police Training Program is a condition of continued employment. You will be required to sign a continuing service agreement (CSA) prior to travel to the academy.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing twenty-four hour Police services for the protection of life and/or property within the jurisdiction of the U.S. Government by enforcing laws, regulations, and instructions, and providing vehicular and pedestrian traffic control, police patrol, arrest/apprehensive of violators, investigation of misdemeanors, offense against the UCMJ, and other incidents with jurisdiction purview; Recovering evidence, protecting crime scenes, providing physical security at the scene or incidents and monitoring/responding to alarms throughout the assigned area; Serving as the Deputy Senior Uniformed Law Enforcement Officer for their command and/or being involved with management, planning, directing, and coordinating all security and law enforcement operations.
