You will serve as a SUPERVISORY POLICE OFFICER at the NSA BETHESDA SECURITY DETACHMENT.

Duties

You will administer anti-terrorism, force protection, physical security, and law enforcement services for the protection of life and property. You will coordinate emergency response for calls concerning complaints or reports of violations. You will enforce traffic laws and issue citations for violations (e.g., speeding, reckless driving, driving under the influence). You will implement force protection measures in compliance with laws and regulations. You will respond to calls for service (e.g., duress and intrusion detection alarms, emergency calls, complaints) to take action for resolution. You will prepare detailed reports, forms, and citations concerning all incidents and action taken.

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You must meet the qualifications and be certified to carry a firearm. You will need to maintain firearm proficiency.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • Employee must successfully pass an initial, annual, or any required OPM, DoD, or DON mental and emotional stability screening, Physical Agility Test, and medical screening.
  • This position does not meet the definition of Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverage as LEO for purposes of the Federal employment Retirement System-Base Annuity in accordance with 5 CFR, Part 842, and Subpart H.
  • Must successfully complete U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Law Enforcement Training Academy Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) course and pass the Navy Physical Agility Test.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Directing and making immediate decisions in the provisions of Law Enforcement (LE), Antiterrorism (AT), and Force Protection (FP); 2) performing a full range of duties and responsibilities in preventing terrorist activities, resolving offenses, conducting preliminary and ongoing investigations of incidents; 3) Documenting law enforcement and security events and the issuance of citations; and, 4) Implementing FPCON measures and RAM in the response to command direction and terrorist threats.
