These positions are located in National Capital Parks-East, in the Maintenance Division.
These are Career/Career-Conditional Full-time appointment.
Duties
The major duties of the Maintenance Mechanic position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Knowledge of Carpentry: Constructs, alters, modifies or repairs a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities.
Knowledge of Plumbing: Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers, and lay out of such things as angles, arcs, and circles.
Knowledge of Painting: Performs painting duties with little oversight and/or review of work during progress or upon completion.
Knowledge of Masonry: From oral instructions, blueprints, work orders, and rough sketches, incumbent plans and lays out masonry work, selects the proper tools, determines materials to be used, and accomplishes the work in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade practices with no technical assistance.
Knowledge of Water Treatment Plant Operations: Apply the best basic health, sanitary, and mechanical principles and practices to ensure proper operation and maintenance of microbiological and physical chemical processes for efficient treatment of potable water distribution systems.
Knowledge of Roofing: Determine roofing work to be completed, locating leaks and determining their cause and extent of damage, selecting the work method to be followed for repair, and determining and using a greater variety of roofing materials and accessories such as shingles, roofing felt, and asphalt.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)
Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
