This position will be assigned to the Air Force Service Center at Port San Antonio, TX. This is a regular full-time category position with guaranteed 40 hrs per week. Employees appointed to a regular category position are eligible for benefits.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to serve as a Junior Technical expert performing analysis of network systems, to meet network projects. Projects typically involve analyses of large, complex networks. Technical advisor to management on all aspects of the sustainment of the network and future solutions that may include migration to different cloud environments. Participates in feasibility studies, which involve evaluating proposals regarding modification or replacement of current network software and/or hardware and development and/or acquisition of new technology. Assist in the development of network evolution roadmaps. Provides day-to-day network and infrastructure management, operations, and support in a hybrid network environment, includes both on-prem and cloud computing environments. Supports and receives technical direction from the Senior Lead Network Engineer. Configures and installs complex network hardware/software such as routers, firewalls and load balancing devices ensuring the DOD security requirements are adhered to. Designs, monitors, and troubleshoots hybrid network environment and infrastructure systems. Conducts technical consultation, guidance, and analysis of functional requirements, change proposals, and current network systems to determine feasibility and provide input to network configurations. Responsible for the installation, test, implementation, modification, documentation, operations, and management of the organization's hybrid network environments. Performs in-depth analysis; this involves determining a need or responding to a stated need, identifying, and evaluating available network hardware, configuration, and monitoring other network or contractor personnel in performance of test, implementation, modification, documentation, and follow-on maintenance. Advises functional area users and team members. Responsible for assisting in IT problem management methods, practices, develops new/innovative customer support methods and technologies. Plans, implements, and manages problem management systems designed to effectively recognize, report, track, and resolve problems. Evaluates the feasibility of adapting new methods to enhance customer satisfaction. Judiciously manages the acquisition, development, and implementation of new technology. Applies IT policy and planning concepts and practices. Develops and implements configuration management plans which ensure optimization of connectivity between commercial and military sites throughout the installation. Maintains local procedures for networks, system operations, and product assembly, installation, and maintenance. Implements the network operating systems and/or network application software. Conducts testing of hybrid network environments to ensure that current release of software products are in use and to ensure operability, efficiency, and compliance with existing standards. Monitors the operation of the hybrid network environments and ensures that hardware and network operating software are functioning properly, and standards are being met. Recommends and prepares operating policies and procedures for networks, and product assembly and installation. Complies and ensures compliance with security policies and procedures are implemented such as Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and cyber orders are implemented per U.S Cyber Command directives and vulnerabilities mitigated in accordance with all applicable DoDI's, AFIS, NIST, local operating instructions to ensure compliance. Effectively communicates and regularly interfaces with and advises and collaborates with functional users and stakeholders on changes to the hybrid network environments. Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance (Tier 3) for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be a U.S. Citizen, or a Legal U.S. Resident for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Per DoDM 8140.03, the incumbent must achieve the appropriate foundational and resident qualification requirements within nine months of assignment.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and /or holidays.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain a Security + Certification for the duration of employment.

Qualifying Experience: Must have a minimum of 3-5 years proven experience with a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN and Cloud) design principles, methodologies and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services supporting functional requirements. Proven experience with network architecture, cloud network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology and protocols. Proven experience with complex configuration management techniques and requirements appropriate to managing large network systems. Must gather facts and use complex and effective analytical and evaluative methods to access information, plan the sequence of actions necessary, make sound decisions, and solve a variety of complex network problems; and to analyze component interrelationships and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an operational perspective. Must maintain an up-to-date awareness of technological advances and advise the team lead and management on meeting current and future requirements. Needs to have and maintain at a minimum a professional network certification that validates the ability to plan, implement, verify, and troubleshoot local and wide-area enterprise networks and work collaboratively with specialists on advanced security, voice, wireless and video solutions. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of and skill in configuring and installing switches and routers, monitoring network performance, performing network diagnostics, analyzing network traffic patterns, installing network software fixes and upgrades. Knowledge of and skills in operational functions for firewalls, Virtual Private Network (VPN), BigIP F5 load balancing, and configuring Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Protection System (IPS). Skills in working with various data center, enterprise-level and cloud network technologies. Knowledge of and skills in configuring and implementing hybrid network solutions using multiple cloud platforms and cloud providers. Knowledge of and skill in applying and implementing network design principles and concepts, network architecture principles and concepts, network protocols; remote access technology concepts, network operation and maintenance concepts and methods, network management tools, configuration management concepts and practices; network topology concepts; network optimization techniques; and acquisition management policies. Skills in cloud computing services and designing, implementing and operating management of multiple cloud services, and cloud-based infrastructure configuration and cloud security design. Skill in establishing connectivity between remote sites, creating network maps, troubleshooting network problems (outages), developing and implementing configuration management plans for complex LANs/WANs for both on-premises and cloud environments.
