You will serve as a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST for the CENTER FOR SERVICE SUPPORT.

Duties

You will administer public affairs programs and activities and identify program requirements, the nature of the information required, the needs of the targeted audience, and the most appropriate means of disseminating the information. You will collect and disseminate informational materials aimed at enhancing the external public's understanding of the organization's programs, accomplishments, and events. You will coordinate the organization's participation in events performing duties such as organizing the availability of personnel/equipment, directing the set-up of exhibits, and preparing presentations. You will perform a variety of internal information/relations assignments, e.g., writes news and articles for inclusion in the organization's newspaper or other internal publications such as newsletters and bulletins. You will plan and develop public affairs videos and manage social media sites for the command.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing new information materials including news releases, fact sheets, brochures, booklets, broadcast spots, etc., that increase communication regarding an organization to the public; 2) Providing representatives of the print and broadcast media, trade associations, and industrial representatives with timely and accurate explanations of agency policies and regulations; 3) Interacting with a variety of public personnel including organization personnel, media representatives, public officials, and/or members of the general public as a representative for an organization; and 4) Analyzing information program materials and offer recommendations for improving the delivery of information to a targeted audience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
