Serve as an AST, Aerospace Experimental Facilities and Test engineer at John Glenn Research Center's Microgravity and Fuel Cell (FC) facilities. The work involves the direction of experimental aerospace tests in major research or test facilities and the management of these aerospace research/test facilities, including resource management, planning, and project management of sophisticated experiments.

Duties

Duties described below are at the highest grade advertised. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee. Coordinate customer requirements for proposed testing utilizing engineering principles and working with the full testing team. Provide oversight and management of test facility schedules, budgets, maintenance, operations, and labor. Communicate issues, status updates, reports, data calls, and action items to the branch, division and directorate. Support the Facility Managers in both Space and Aero test facility areas. Participate in workforce planning for the branch, ensuring resources and skills are available to support test facility operations. Communicate and coordinate with support service contractor management and Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) to ensure coverage of skills and personnel to support test facilities operations and maintenance. Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below and have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Supporting planning and coordination activities associated with the operation of Microgravity and Fuel Cell facilities (e.g., improvements, maintenance, test techniques, safety related considerations, systems configuration control and documentation, or other similar engineering activities); Participating in long and short-range plans for Microgravity and Fuel Cell facilities maintenance and improvements; Providing technical engineering support for Microgravity and Fuel Cell testing programs or projects. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Providing technical guidance to plan, coordinate and manage activities associated with the operation of Microgravity and Fuel Cell facilities (e.g., improvements, maintenance, test techniques, safety related considerations, systems configuration control and documentation, or other similar engineering activities); Providing expert technical input to develop long and short-range plans for Microgravity and Fuel Cell facilities maintenance and improvements; Serving as a technical specialist, expert consultant, and point of contact for Microgravity and Fuel Cell testing. Education

Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.

If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
